Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speaking. Feminist Frequency provides videos, commentaries and analysis of portrayals in popular cultures. Anita Sarkeesian is an award-winning feminist journalist from Canada and a blogger. She is the creator and executive director of Feminist Frequency A scholarly, non-profit site that examines the representation of women in pop media narratives. In addition, she works to highlight the problems surrounding sexual harassment and assaults on women and others of minority groups in the online world, she is determined to break down the stigmas and stereotypes in the popular culture. Sarkeesian is a graduate in the field of political and social thought at York University. As a public speaker, she is highly sought after and has been a speaker at TEDxWomen XOXO and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Interested in issues concerning gender identity and feminism from at an early age, she created her site Feminist Frequency in 2009 while studying at the University. Someone who hoped to launch a web-series that would examine the gender representation of video games, she was targeted by an internet-based campaign. This attack was not enough to deter her. Instead, it made her more committed as a feminist and media critic. Her many notable contributions in the field of feminists were recognized by a variety of prizes. Anita Sarkeesian won awards for her efforts as a critique of the media, and she founded Feminist Frequency. Feminist Frequency is a non-profit organization that investigates women's representation in contemporary pop culture.
